SPS installs high-tech digital scoreboards

(SPS) -- Sapulpa Public Schools unveiled a new, state-of-the-art digital video scoreboard at the Chieftain Center on January 4 at the first home basketball game of 2022. It's one of the only scoreboards of its kind at a high school basketball venue in Oklahoma --  raising the bar for the high school athletics experience!

The ultra-modern, high-definition Daktronics video scoreboard, complete with a new sound system, replaced 20-year-old boards which had hung in the Chieftain Center since it opened.

A four-sided videoboard now hangs high above center court at the Chieftain Center. Each display, including a digital scoreboard, is nearly eight feet tall and just over ten feet wide, and the video is transmitted via fiber optic cable. New boards were also installed courtside and in locker rooms.

The Daktronics board is part of a district-wide scoreboard upgrade project. Over the winter break, new scoreboards were also installed at the softball and baseball fields, although they do not feature video like the Chieftain Center board. SPS re-purposed some of the former Chieftain Center scoreboards to the Junior High to replace worn out boards. In spring, a large high-definition video display and sound system will go in at George F. Collins Stadium.

The video boards require technical planning as well as in-game production. Students can get hands-on learning experience to prepare for college or a career in sports programming or event production. The student production crew will run cameras and audio, design graphics, and create instant replays.

The video scoreboards not only provide an interactive, exciting game experience for Chieftains fans, but they give the district an opportunity to create more revenue through sponsorships. The boards will also be utilized for district special events.

If you haven't seen the new scoreboards yet, prepare to be wowed at the next home game at the Chieftain Center!
