DEPARTMENT OF INDIAN EDUCATION

The Department of Indian Education of Sapulpa Public Schools exists to serve Native American students (Pre-K through 12) in the school district. Sapulpa Indian Education is funded by two federal grants Title VI and Johnson O’Malley.

Those federal dollars go directly to local programs to meet academic, social, and cultural needs, as well as college and career planning for our participating students.

Challenge Bowl - Sapulpa Indian Education competes annually in the Muscogee (Creek) Nation Challenge Bowl. It is a way for showcasing students' knowledge of the history and culture. The competition is a good place for all students to be courageous, to challenge themselves, make new friends, be respectful, and show good sportsmanship.

Community Involvement - Sapulpa Indian Education strives to involve the community at our events. We sponsor cultural days, after-school stickball, movie nights, annual stomp dance, and host the Yuchi Knowledge Bowl.

Native American Student Association - NASA provides a multi-tribal community for Native American students, and other students within the student body of Sapulpa Schools; to promote a better understanding for Native American people and their respective tribes, and to increase a public awareness of Native American cultures.

Enrollment in either Title VI or Johnson O'Malley does not obligate your student to participate. However, enrollment does help bring much-needed federal money to Sapulpa Public Schools to help support the education of Native American students.
