Construction underway at Westside Complex

(SPS) -- As summer heats up, so does preparation for the new Westside Baseball and Softball Complex.

The first phase of the project includes leveling the ground to prepare it for utilities, drainage, and other infrastructure necessities for the new home of Chieftain baseball and softball, which will include two artificial turf fields, an indoor facility and locker rooms, parking lot, bleachers and concession stand.

At May's regular Board of Education meeting, Will Berry, of Sapulpa-based DC Bass & Sons Construction, which is the construction management firm for the project, presented bids for the next phase of the project. That phase will include artificial turf installation and sports lighting.

Work at the site will continue at a quick pace through the summer months.

Meanwhile, at a Special Meeting of the Board of Education on Thursday, May 30, the board approved a $635,000 general obligation bond bid from The Baker Group LP of Oklahoma City in association with American Heritage Bank of Sapulpa. This will pave the way for new school buses for the district, which will be delivered over the next several weeks. The board also approved a bid from Trimac Companies to re-roof Sapulpa Junior High School, which is also part of the Chieftain Stronger bond package.
