High School, 7th and 8th grade bands win awards

(SPS) - What a weekend for Sapulpa bands!

The High School, 8th grade, and 7th grade bands were all recognized for their performances.

The Sapulpa High School Wind Ensemble earned the OSSAA Sweepstakes Award after receiving a superior rating in both sight reading and concert on Friday at Jenks. The Sweepstakes Award is the highest honor awarded to high school bands.

The 7th and 8th grade bands performed at the Heartland Music Fest at Frontier City in Oklahoma City on Saturday.

The 7th graders, directed by Michelle Barnes, received superior ratings, section awards given for Flutes and French Horns, and won Best Overall Performance. Three soloist awards were given to Hayden Gregory on trumpet, Adam Asad on bass clarinet, and Tyler McMurtrey on tuba.

The 8th grade band, directed by Jason Reznicek, also received superior ratings, outstanding trumpet section award, outstanding oboe section award, as well as the Distinguished Band Award.
