Email, Texts & Phone Calls

SPS uses School Messenger, our database driven communications tool, for District and/or teacher communication with parents and/or students in the form of phone calls, emails and possibly texts. School Messenger pulls the contact information (email or phone number) confidentially from the school database system, Power School. At no point is administration or any SPS staff able to access or view your information to send School Messenger communications.

It is vital as parents to always have your contact information updated should you get a new email address and/or phone number. To provide SPS with new or updated contact information, simply call your school site office and have the front office secretary update your Demographics Profile in Power School. In addition, every April, you are asked as parents to complete Online Student Verification, which allows you to update any information. You will be sent an email with the link for verification every April and also reminder phone calls until the required completion date of August.

Phone calls are usually sent at the District or School Site level and are reserved for emergencies, school closures and information of relative importance. Phone calls are sent after 5pm until 9pm as to not interfere with parents work or daily activities, except in case of an emergency in which the phone calls are real time and transmitted immediately.

Emails can be sent by the District, School Site, Coaches, activity group Directors and Teachers to parent and/or student emails. All students are given an email account in the District. Depending on the age of your student, they may not have been instructed or aware that they have an account. Email communication to students usually occurs at the 6th grade - 12th grade level. Emails can be sent throughout the day and will arrive in the convenience of your inbox for review. The email addresses are accessed through the school database system, Power School which confidentially protects your address from being viewed or copied to send School Messenger communications.

Texts may be received when a phone call has been sent, stating you have been sent a phone call by SPS with a message which you can download. In addition, some Teachers, Coaches and Activity Groups have began using the text feature for communications. To allow your phone to receive texts (should the sender select the text feature), simply text "yes" to 68-453. Again, your phone number is not visible by staff, it is confidentially loaded from Power School.
