AP Scholars, Lone Star students recognized during Friday b-ball games

Chieftain Center(SPS) - If you thought the basketball games our girls and boys varsity teams played on Tuesday night were intense, just wait until Friday.

The Chieftains host the Booker T. Washington Hornets on Feb. 1 in a pivotal 6A matchup that could have postseason positioning implications.

It’s also Lone Star night. Lone Star School’s elementary girls basketball team will scrimmage during halftime of our varsity girls game. Any student or teacher wearing a Lone Star shirt gets into Chieftain Center for free. It will be a great opportunity for the Lone Star students to cheer on their classmates, experience the electric atmosphere inside the Chieftain Center, and watch two high-quality 6A basketball games.

Friday night is the first time the Sapulpa and Booker T. Washington squads will face each other since opening night of the season on Dec. 4.

The Lady Chieftains fell to BTW 59-46 that evening, but with a victory Friday they’ll avenge that loss and secure their second three-game winning streak of the season. Sapulpa comes into the game at 9-7 and ranked #20. Booker T. is sitting at 11-6, holds the #14 ranking, and hopes to end a two-game losing skid.

As for the boys' side, the Chieftains took down the then #1-ranked team with its 80-72 win on the Hornets' home floor two months ago. Now, both teams are ranked in the top 4 and sport identical 14-2 records.

Sapulpa is looking to build on the exciting come-from-behind victory over Jenks on Tuesday night and extend its seven-game winning streak, while BTW hopes to rebound from its loss to Edmond Santa Fe in the Championship Game of the Jenks/Union Invitational last weekend.

We will also recognize our AP Scholar students between the girls and boys games. It stands to be an exciting night. Those students include:

AP SCHOLARS
Hannah Hamilton
Madison Hemenway
Jace Hill
Cobey Sharp
Ryle Sheaffer

AP SCHOLARS WITH HONORS
Elijah Walblay
Dylan Wilson
Caleb Wortz

AP SCHOLAR WITH DISTINCTION AND NATIONAL MERIT COMMENDED SCHOLAR

Tip-off times are 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. for the junior varsity games and 6:30 and 8 p.m. for the varsity squads.

Make sure you keep an eye on the Chieftain Cheerleaders during timeouts! They'll throw t-shirts into the stands, courtesy of First United Bank. Great basketball and a free t-shirt?! That is one fantastic Friday night!

Thank you to our official game sponsor, First United Bank. We appreciate their support in making this night enjoyable for everyone.
