(SPS) -- Sapulpa High School broke ground on a new facility for its JROTC program on Tuesday.
The new facility will be a drill hall for JROTC cadets. Currently, the cadets practice in the parking lot regardless of the weather. The new building will be located northwest of Collins Stadium and will give the program a place of its own to conduct its drills.
"This will give them an opportunity to stay dry and stay warm," said Major Jerry Swepston, former instructor of Sapulpa High School JROTC.
The 60’ x 80’ metal building will be completed in two phases with phase one to begin next week with concrete work. Phase 2 is expected to begin around spring break with the completion of the project during the summer.
The new drill hall is expected to cost approximately $160,000 and is funded through private donations.
Those in attendance for the groundbreaking included representatives of American Legion Post 36, Disabled American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Marine Corps League.
