(SPS) - Muy buenos, estudiantes!
Several Spanish students at Sapulpa High School earned national recognition for their performance on the 2019 National Spanish Examinations.
It is the first time Sapulpa High School students have taken the National Spanish Exam.
Three bronze medals and two honorable mentions were awarded to Chieftains.
Those who scored in the top 25th percentile of students across the nation in the Bilingual category and earned a bronze medal were senior
Johana Avalos (level 4) and sophomore
Yeimarie Acevedo (level 3).
Emma Castleberry (level 2) received a bronze medal and scored in the top 25th percentile in the Regular Classroom category.
The students awarded honorable mention, and scored in the upper 50th percentile, were sophomore
Andrea Bojorquez (level 4) in the Bilingual category and sophomore
Leona Crowl (level 3) in the Regular Classroom category.
"Attaining a medal or honorable mention for any student on the National Spanish Examinations is very prestigious," said Kevin Cessna-Buscemi, National Director of the Exams. "Because the exams are the largest of their kind in the United States with over 146,000 students participating in 2019."
The National Spanish Examinations are administered each year in grades 6 through 12, and are sponsored by the
American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese.
