Gideon Seaman(SPS) - Sapulpa Public Schools is happy to announce Gideon Seaman has accepted the Director of Technology and Operations position.

If that name sounds familiar, it should. Gideon has worked in the district for the past five years.

Most recently he has been a consultant with Houghton Mifflin Harcourt at the Washington Administrative Center working in coordination with the Teaching and Learning Department. Prior to HMH, Gideon held office at the Sapulpa Jr/Sr High campus where he taught Spanish.

“I am incredibly honored and humbled to enter into this role. We have a great team of people and I have big shoes to fill,” Gideon said. “I am looking forward to supporting our teachers and students so that we can continue to grow together to serve our community.”

Before coming to Sapulpa, Gideon taught at Jenks Middle School for two years and Tulsa Community College for roughly six years. At both Jenks and Sapulpa, he served as a technology trainer. He is currently at the half-way point of earning his Master’s Degree in educational technology from Oklahoma State University.

“Perhaps the biggest shift in education in our time is how prolific and embedded technology is in our lives--this includes how we learn and how we communicate. We need to support teachers with the tools and training to leverage technology in the classroom for the best learning possible. Oftentimes, the most effective "technology" is pencil and paper! However, teachers need support in the form of continual, sequential, and purposeful learning in what technologies are available, how to use them, and when they are most beneficial for students. The role of the teacher is changing to not only be the distributor of information, but also on how to evaluate what is True, what is Good, what is Beautiful, and how to find it.

“I actually see this as an opportunity to support our students and teachers more than ever. In this new role, I want to be sure that I am continually listening to teachers to understand what they need. So, for me, this role is fundamentally about students and teachers, and secondarily, how technology can improve the process, relevance, and outcomes.”

Gideon graduated summa cum laude from OSU in 2008, double majoring in Education and Spanish. He attended seminary in Berkeley, CA at St. Joseph of Arimathea Anglican Theological College and graduated in 2003.

Gideon is married to Amanda Seaman - a former English teacher at Sapulpa High School - and they have three children; Finnan, Aidan, and Maggie.

When he’s not working on his Spanish or tinkering with technology, Gideon enjoys archery, hunting, fishing, camping, gardening, hobby farming, self-sufficiency, music, anything DIY, and learning how to do new things.

Gideon’s hire was approved by the school board at Monday night’s meeting. He begins his new position late October.
