(SPS) - On the day people around the globe are fixated on the world’s most popular sporting event, some Sapulpa Chieftains are being honored for their work on the pitch.

World Cup 2018 kicked off in Russia Thursday as the host country opened the tournament with a 5-0 rout of Saudi Arabia.

A little closer to home, three Lady Chieftains were selected as part of Tulsa World’s Burger King All-World Girls Soccer.

Sara Arundell made first team, while Kalyn Anderson and Stormie Ramsey made honorable mention.

But the honors don’t stop there.

Arundell, Ramsey, and Abby Graham were named to the All-VYPE Soccer girls team.

"I am so proud of what our girls accomplished this year! Getting 10 wins for the first time in 10 years is a big accomplishment," said head coach Lori Arundell. "Honors at the end of the season are a reflection of the entire team and what they did as a unit. I am excited for those girls that were recognized for their individual honors."

Tyson Scott and Ethan Castillo were named to the All-VYPE Soccer boys team.

Congrats to all of our Chieftains!
