(SPS) -- The Sapulpa Public Schools Board of Education approved a new policy (946.1 Student Communication) in accordance with Oklahoma House Bill 3958 which will become law on July 1, 2024.

The law requires all school personnel to include a parent or legal guardian in electronic or digital communication with an individual student, unless the communication is on a district-approved platform and related to school and/or academic communication.

The BOE approved the following platforms to be used by school personnel when communicating with individual students: Schoology, Google Suite, PowerSchool, School Messenger, SportsYou, Hudl and RankOne.

Sapulpa Public Schools personnel have been notified of the policy requiring school personnel to communicate via a district-approved platform. Communication via any platform not approved by the district will include a parent or legal guardian. Coaches and staff members may use group texts to two or more individual students as needed.

Sapulpa Public Schools is awaiting training materials from the Oklahoma State Department of Education as we implement this policy. The district will continue to provide staff members and parents/guardians with updates.
