(SPS) -- The second in a series of steering committees meeting for Bond 2023 was held on Tuesday, November 7.

A group of Sapulpa Public Schools administrators and Sapulpa High School and Junior High teachers met with architectural firms Reed Architecture and Interiors and DLR Group to take a detailed look at potential design concepts for the new Sapulpa High School Campus. They provided feedback on several concepts which illustrated the potential placement of learning environments in a new building, including possible locations for fine and performing arts, career tech, special education classrooms, STEM, and more. They also took part in surveys of various designs of high school exteriors, interiors, and performing arts centers.

The group of 18 steering committee members play a crucial role in the schematic design process, lending a voice that will help define space and programmatic needs. They will meet again in December and over the next nine months. A community meeting is expected to be scheduled in early 2024.

Architects will combine feedback from the steering committee, as well as additional community input, to build a specific concept for the new high school.

On November 13 and 14, Sapulpa Public Schools Superintendent Rob Armstrong and Assistant Superintendent Johnny Bilby will visit J. Serra High School in California to learn about the innovative opportunities the school provides to students through its leading educational pathways program.

SPS Educational Pathways director Mindy Englett, SHS principal Seth Shibley, and Bartlett Academy principal Ashley Tselee, will attend the Association for Learning Environments CTE (Career Technical Education) Symposium November 15 through 17 in Denver, Colorado. The symposium focuses on building Educational Pathways programs in schools which harness students' passions and allow them to build relationships to secure future opportunities.

The group will tour some of the most advanced STEM and career tech schools in the country. The facilities the group is touring were designed by DLR Group. Reed Architecture and Interiors of Sapulpa will work alongside DLR Group to design the new Sapulpa High School.
