Nicky Cooper teaches 8th and 9th grade Physical Education and 8th-12th grade Adaptive Physical Education.  She graduated from Phillips University in Enid where she also taught.  She is in her 19th year of teaching.  Although there are many factors as to why she became a teacher, it was her Dad who was a coach at the elementary level that inspired her to work with kids, always pushing them to give their best effort but having fun along the way.

Shelley Adams teaches English, Life Skills and Study Skills to 10th-12th graders.  Shelley graduated from Northeastern State University.  She has taught for 20 years.  Shelley decided to become a teacher because she always wanted to work with students with special needs and help others who struggle.

Jessica Nicholson teaches 5th grade Mathematics and Vocabulary.  Jessica graduated from Oklahoma State University.  She is in her 5th year of teaching and all have been here in Sapulpa. Jessica decided to become a teacher because she was blessed with kind, patient, and creative elementary teachers that made learning fun.  They inspired her to do the same.

Michelle Doss teaches all subjects to her 3rd grade students.  Michelle graduated from Northeastern State University. She has taught for five years.  Michelle became a teacher because she enjoys spending time with children, demonstrating the enjoyment of learning and she wanted to help children realize there is someone other than family that loves and cares for them too.

Kristy Behrens teaches all subjects to her 4th grade students.  Kristy graduated from Oklahoma State University.  She has taught for 30 years, ALL in Sapulpa.  As a third grade student, Kristy knew that she wanted to be a teacher.  Stories from her grandmother (who taught in a one room schoolhouse) and a former teacher was her inspiration to become a teacher and make a difference in young children's lives.

Shanna Means teaches all subjects to her Kindergarten class. Shanna graduated from Arkansas Tech University.  She has taught for 22 years.  Shanna became a teacher to follow her passion and work in the early childhood classroom.

Christie Dorse teaches 6th grade English/Language Arts.  Christie graduated from Northeastern State University.  This is her 6th year of teaching and all have been here in Sapulpa.  For as long as Christie can remember, she wanted to be a teacher.  Being a teacher's aide, she witnessed all the time what they put into their classroom and students.  The difference they made in her life, made her want to do the same.

Kate Helstrom teaches Oklahoma History, World History, US History, and Government for 9th - 12th grade.  Kate graduated from Northeastern State University and has taught for 16 years in Sapulpa.  Kate became a teacher after 24 years in the corporate world because she always would end up in a training position.  She loves teaching and has a gift for it.

Please join Sapulpa Public Schools in congratulating these outstanding educators and our site teachers of the year.
