Supt. Armstrong announces Distance Learning Plan

Superintendent Message graphicDear parents and guardians,

On March 25, the State Department of Education extended the closure of all school buildings and for districts to implement a Distance Learning plan through the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year.

Since that time, Sapulpa Public Schools administration, principals, curriculum team, teachers, and others have worked tirelessly to create a plan that will serve all of our students beginning Monday, April 6.

We understand through surveys that many of our students do not have access to reliable Internet service, and it’s important for you to know that technology is not needed for our Distance Learning strategy. Our goal in putting together the plan has been to provide flexible learning opportunities while understanding these are not normal circumstances. Some highlights:
  • Elementary students will complete activities from Learning Menus that were provided prior to Spring Break, and will be available online at www.sapulpaps.org/distancelearning.
  • Students in Middle School, Junior High, High School, and Bartlett Academy will complete assignments in O@sis, our learning management system. Take home packets will also be available for those who need them. There will be no final exams for students in grades 6 through 12. AP students will have AP exams.
  • Teachers will maintain “virtual office hours” and will contact students at least once a week.
  • The amount of time spent learning from home will not be relative to a traditional school day.
A drive-through service will be available for those parents of elementary school students who requested to check out a Chromebook. We will provide details of that service soon. Students who need to retrieve items that are essential to completing instruction will find the information in the Parent/Student Guide.

We have created five Parent/Student Guides. In the guides, you will learn more about student expectations, contact information, and more. These guides are posted at www.sapulpaps.org/distancelearning. We encourage you to review the guides and maintain a line of communication with your student’s teacher.

This is not how we envisioned closing out the school year. However, we are embracing the opportunity ahead and hoping you do as well. This is not a perfect solution. We know there will be challenges as we move toward the last day of instruction on May 15. We appreciate your patience, understanding, and support. We hope this finds you and your family well and following the CDC guidelines for social distancing. Stay safe. Stay Chieftain Strong.

Sincerely,

Rob Armstrong
