Sapulpa Public School's plan for school closure
Posted on 03/15/2020
Sapulpa Public SchoolsSapulpa Public Schools administration has been closely monitoring the situation with the novel coronavirus, COVID-19, around the country, and more specifically, in Oklahoma.

District administration has been in contact with several health departments, made adjustments to cleaning and disinfecting practices in our buildings, and continued to have discussions daily about the ongoing developments in regard to the safety and well-being of our students and staff.

As a result, we are preparing assignments and information for students in the event we need to close our schools before we return from Spring Break. To clarify, we are not announcing a school closure. We have a plan in case we need to close and implement Digital Learning Days in which students will do assignments from home.

Spring Break is March 13 through March 20.

On Thursday, March 12, students in Pre-K through 5th grades will be sent home with Learning Menus that will detail activity-based assignments for students to do if we implement Digital Learning Days. Students in 6th through 12th grades will have assignments ready in OASIS. The Learning Menu and online OASIS assignments will only be required IF we make an announcement to stay home for a Digital Learning Day.

Our first priority is the well-being of our students and staff. We appreciate your understanding as we continue to navigate the quickly evolving developments regarding the coronavirus.

Here are more details:

What can I do to help stop the spread of germs?
Please review this flyer issued by the CDC for information you can share with your family.

When is Spring Break?
Our Spring Break is March 13 through March 20. Classes are scheduled to resume on March 23.

Do I send my student to school on Monday, March 23?
Yes. We will make an announcement IF we close school and need to implement Digital Learning Days from home.

When will you make the decision to close schools, if you do?
That decision is not one that we take lightly. Therefore, we will continue to monitor the developments during Spring Break, weigh how the situation has evolved, and use that information to make a decision. If we decide to have students stay home, we will make that announcement as soon as we possibly can to allow you the time to prepare.

How will you notify us of the decision?
We will send out an email, make a phone call, and send a text message. We will also post the announcement on social media.

Should my student bring his/her Chromebook home on Thursday, March 12?
If your student is in grades 6 through 12, yes. Students should also make sure they take home the Chromebook charger as well. Assignments - which will only be done on Digital Learning Days - will be found in OASIS.

How do I access OASIS?
These are the links to OASIS for students in 6th through 12th grades. Click on the school name or copy and paste the URL.

How will you take attendance if we are on a Digital Learning Day?
This Google Form (form will be attached when needed) will allow students and/or parents to check in for attendance. Make sure it is filled out each day we are on a Digital Learning Day. The form will need to be completed by 11:59 p.m. If you have multiple students who attend our schools, you will need to complete a separate form for each of those students.

What do I do for technical support if something happens to my Chromebook or I am having trouble accessing OASIS?
We will have support via our Helpdesk. You may call 918-216-5000.

How do I contact my teacher if I need help with an assignment while on a Digital Learning Day?
Our teachers will monitor their school-issued email. You may contact them there. You may find teacher email addresses on our Contact Us page.

We are traveling for Spring Break. Do I need to tell my student’s school where we’ve been?
The Oklahoma State Department of Education announced on March 6, that any student, teacher, and district employee traveling to and returning from any Level 2 or Level 3 country as identified by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will be required to self-quarantine for 14 days before returning to school. If this pertains to you, please contact your student’s school - do not go to school - and follow this guidance.

What is the district doing to minimize the spread of germs at the schools?
We have taken inventory of our supplies to ensure that we have an adequate stock of cleaning and disinfecting agents. During the past couple of weeks, our custodial staff has prioritized cleaning and disinfecting surfaces that are frequently touched and handled during the day. We have also been educating proper preventive actions and encouraging hand washing to stop the spread of germs.
