Boys soccer huddling(SPS) -- Spring sports are winding up and that includes the Sapulpa Chieftains soccer programs.

The Lady Chieftains participated in the Claremore Tournament on Feb. 15th and walked away with two wins in their three matches. That same day, the boys traveled to the Hilldale Tournament and finished 2-0.

Both teams will travel to Metro Christian for another preseason match on Feb. 20th before the boys return home to host the Sapulpa Showcase at the Westside Sports Complex on Saturday, Feb. 22nd.

The Showcase will feature six schools playing in a single day that kicks off with the first game at 8 a.m. and wraps up with the ninth and final match of the day 12 hours later.

“We are looking forward to putting on a great event,” said head boys coach Kip Shubert. “We have state champions and runners up from all classes in Oklahoma participating this year.”

The teams joining the Chieftains for the Sapulpa Showcase include Bishop Kelley, Fort Gibson, Jenks, Mustang, and Owasso.

Jenks and Bishop Kelley are the defending state champions in 6A and 5A, respectively, while Fort Gibson finished as state runner-up in 4A. Mustang advanced to the semi-finals and Owasso made it to the first round. The Showcase will produce high-quality soccer from the state’s best programs and it will be a good barometer for coach Shubert to see how his team stacks up.

“It’s an opportunity to see exactly where we are in terms of personnel and what strategic adjustments we need to make and it also, with the strong competition, will draw in college coaches from around the region. This will allow all the teams to get in front of college coaches for an opportunity to play at the next level,” said coach Shubert.

The colleges that are expected to attend the Showcase are Oral Roberts University, Rogers State University, Oklahoma Christian University, Mid-America Christian University, Oklahoma Baptist University, Northern Oklahoma College, Panhandle State University, Northeastern Oklahoma A&M, and University of Arkansas Rich Mountain Community College.

"Exposing college coaches to Sapulpa soccer is just going to benefit us down the road and in the future."

Speaking of the future, coach Shubert said the boys are ready for the Showcase and to get started on what he believes could be a season to remember.

"I look for us to have a great season, maybe have the best season Sapulpa's ever had."
