AP Scholars(SPS) -- Five Sapulpa High School seniors were honored for their academic achievements during the 2019-20 school year.

These students received national recognition for excellence by College Board by demonstrating exemplary college-level achievement on Advanced Placement Exams and/or the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, placing them in the top 3 percent of students in the nation.

Ariana Alarcon, AP Scholar
Ariana is the daughter of Krisann Diaz. She is a part of the Sapulpa Band where she plays the bass clarinet and is on the leadership team. Ariana is involved in AP Art where painting is her main hobby. She plans to attend the University of Oklahoma and double major in Visual Arts and 2-D Conservation. She wants to one day become a conservationist at a prestigious museum. Ariana invited Ms. Jolene Martin to accompany her to the recognition event. “Ms. Martin is my favorite teacher. She not only teaches my favorite subject, art, but she does it in a way that pushes me to my limits and allows me to always improve. While she is not the only person who has encouraged me to become an artist, she has definitely helped me solidify this choice.”

Ava Aleszczyk, AP Scholar
Ava is the daughter of Justin and Jennifer Link. She is a member of National Honor Society and has had an interest in art for as long as she can remember. Ava is currently applying for colleges but plans to attend either The University of Tulsa, Parsons School of Design, or The Fashion Institute of Technology. She wants to one day live in New York and have a career in design. Ava asked Ms. Heather Florer to be her special guest. "I picked Ms. Florer because she was my first AP class instructor and her class prepared me so well for all the other AP classes I have taken in high school. I attribute her instruction for giving me the skills needed to do well in even the hardest classes. I believe this solid foundation in my first AP class lead me to become an AP scholar."

Hayden Moore, AP Scholar
Hayden is the son of Brian and Amber Moore. He is a member of National Honor Society, Vice-President of the Blue Blazed Marvels, member of Syncopation Jazz Choir, and captain of the Sapulpa Men’s Varsity Soccer team. Hayden would like to attend Texas A&M University and major in Wildlife and Fisheries Sciences and Management. He plans to pursue a career as a private environmental consultant and/or become a gameland manager. Hayden also recognized Ms. Heather Florer as the teacher who has impacted him the most.  “She has had a huge impact on my high school career. Her AP Biology course was my first AP class and the first class to truly challenge me. Ms. Florer helped me develop new skills both inside and outside of the classroom. She helped create a love for biology and the interactions of the natural world.”

Libby Peterson, AP Scholar
Libby is the daughter of Lance and Kari Peterson. She is on the varsity volleyball team and an active member of Key Club. Libby is also on the executive board for National Honor Society, taking sign language classes, and is very involved in her youth group at her church. Libby plans to attend the University of Oklahoma where she will study to become a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. Her goal is to use therapy as a mission field for God. Libby recognized Ms.Tiffany Admire as the teacher who has impacted her the most.  "I chose Ms. Admire because she is the sweetest, most personable teacher ever. She holds all of her students to the highest standards while recognizing who we are outside of class, too. I will always think of her when I do math or when someone has “a fever."

Abigail Tanner, AP Scholar with Honors
Abigail is the daughter of Christopher and Kristen Tanner. She is a seven-year member of the Sapulpa Band and has been the principal clarinet for the past two years in the Wind Ensemble. In that time I have seen her show incredible dedication to both the musical and personal successes of all her students and I admire her for that. She is a fantastic instructor and has inspired me to go into the field of music education.”
