Sapulpa Chieftains XC runners(SPS) - Another meet, another win for the ladies of Sapulpa Chieftains Varsity Cross Country.

This weekend it was the 2019 Sand Springs Case Cross Country Invitational.

Running on the course that will be this year’s 6A East Regional, the girls ran away from the competition with four placing in the top 10 - Stailee Heard, Sydney Krehbiel, Kara Peiffer, and Stormie Ramsey. Heard and Krehbiel finished second and third, respectfully.

The course at the Case Community Center has rough terrain, tough climbs, and multiple water jumps. Knowing the course conditions and that the team will be back for Regionals, Coach Williams moved two of her runners to the later JV race, where they place second in the team competition.

“We are fortunate to have some depth that allows us to do that because what the girls would learn from that change will be important toward the end of the season. However, even so, our girls were still dominant in the race,” said Williams.

On the boys' side, Mason and Evan Quinton finished in third and fourth place and paced the team to fourth out of 18 schools.

In a change from past meets, event organizers ran the 7th and 8th-grade divisions separately. The 8th-grade girls finished in second while the 7th-grade boys brought home the win. AJ Jernegan crossed the line of the one-mile race in first with a time of 5:13:30.
