Cross Country Meet, Aug. 31, 2019(SPS) - It was a great morning for a run. Make that runs.

The Westside Sports Complex was the place to be on Saturday as runners from 30 teams came to take part in the Sapulpa Chieftain Cross Country Meet.

The meet, hosted by American Heritage Bank, was the season opener for the Sapulpa Chieftains and two of our teams brought home first place hardware.

The girls Varsity squad took first overall and was led by freshman Stailee Heard who placed first in the two-mile run with a time of 12:36. Sydeny Krehbiel came in third just 17 seconds later and Stormie Ramsey was the third Chieftain to place in the top ten with a ninth-place finish and time of 13:42.

“Great overall team win with a strong group of athletes,” said head coach Debbie Williams.

Mason and Evan Quinton led the boys Varsity team. Mason crossed the line in fourth place, 10 seconds ahead of Evan.

“Good group of sophomore athletes rounded out our varsity scoring to place 4th overall,” said Williams.

The Junior High girls and boys teams finished in first and second, respectively. The girls were led by Jasmine Brown and Taylor Bilby who finished second and third just four seconds apart.

The Junior High boys were led by Adren Jernegan who ran a fast 5:15 to win the one-mile race. The team finished just six seconds behind first-place Glenpool in the overall standings.

In the elementary division, 6th grade and under, Jocelyn Brown, Ella Davis, and Lillie Wilson finished in the top 20 for the girls while Traber Lusk finished second overall and Cayden McGhee was right behind him in fourth on the boys side.

The Cross Country team heads to Kiefer next week.
