Girls’ basketball earns academic recognition

(SPS) - The basketball court wasn’t the only place the Lady Chieftains performed well this season.

They did it in the classroom, too.

The 2019 Sapulpa Chieftains girls’ basketball team was recognized with an Academic Achievement Award from the Oklahoma Secondary School Activites Association.

The award is given to those programs that earn a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 or higher. The Lady Chieftains finished the fall semester with a 3.46 GPA.

“Each season we set out to have at least one team reach State qualification, and one team garner OSSAA academic recognition. This is a goal that keeps us connected and accountable across our entire athletic department. Despite what we may producing on the playing field, we place equal priority on what teams are doing in the classroom; this way excellence is a comprehensive expectation,” said Jason Parker, Director of Athletics for Sapulpa Public Schools.

The girls finished the season with a 13-10 record.
