Thoroughly Modern Millie rehearsal(SPS) - Months of hard work preparing for the big spring musical are about to become a reality for students in our theatre and music departments.

Thoroughly Modern Millie is set for three performances at Shaw Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. on April 11, 12, and 13.

Thoroughly Modern Millie is set in the 1920s and is about Millie Dillmount, a small-town girl from Kansas, who travels to New York City to become successful. While there she falls in love, but not with the type of person she had hoped.

“He’s not the richest person,” said senior Joshua Terrones who plays Jimmy Smith in the production. “She is going after the money.”

Junior Kaylie Moss is cast in the lead role and said she can relate to Millie.

“She has a lot of big ideas and she’s very headstrong,” said Moss. “She is a big dreamer and, I guess, I would consider myself a big dreamer.”

One of the things you’ll hear from the cast is that alongside the wonderful singing, dancing, and acting, there are twists and turns in the plot that will keep you on the edge of your seat.

“It's humorous and dramatic and there’s just so much to the story as a whole, that it just ties you in and makes you want to watch it,” said junior Princy Mendenhall.

Mendenhall is cast as Dorothy Brown, a character who may not be who she seems.

"She just wants to make sure everybody around her is just having a good time and just doing what's right. But at the same time, she's not being truthful to herself so at the ending, you'll find out who she really is."

Thoroughly Modern Millie opened on Broadway in 2002 and won six Tony Awards that same year.
