Sapulpa girls soccer(SPS) - If you’re looking for the brooms at the Westside Sports Complex, you might need to check the soccer pitch.

It was a clean sweep of the Chieftain Classic for the girls and boys soccer programs. It was the third year for the event, and it was the third time the girls walked away holding the championship trophy.

The Chieftain Classic soccer tournament is a three-day, 16-team invitational.

On Thursday, the Lady Chieftains opened the tournament with an 8-1 win over Tulsa Memorial, scoring five goals in the second half.

They were down 0-1 to Muskogee at the half in their second game but rallied for five goals after the break to beat the Roughers 5-1 and move on to the title game.

On Friday, it was time for the boys' bracket. After two successive runner-up finishes, the Chieftains were hungry to hoist that championship trophy. They started out hot, with a 7-0 win over Stilwell.

Later that evening, they scored in the final minute of regulation to tie Putnam City West (8-2 record) and then beat the Patriots on penalty kicks for the 2-1 victory.

From there it was on to the championship games Saturday where Sapulpa faced off against Metro Christian on both sides of the bracket.

The boys took the pitch first and for the second straight game, the Chieftains took down a Patriots squad, beating Metro 1-0 to claim their first Chieftain Classic.
