All-State band members(SPS) - Congratulations go out to four of our high schoolers who auditioned for and were selected to be part of All-State bands.

Dylan Wilson, Abigail Tanner, Doug Harnish, and Jaidyn Stabler will represent Sapulpa High School later this month at the Oklahoma Music Educators Association All-State Music Festival.

Dylan, a senior, plays the trumpet and was chosen for Jazz Ensemble. More than 120 auditioned for five trumpet spots with Dylan taking the lead part. He also auditioned for Wind Symphony and again, he landed the top spot taking 1st chair. Winning the top spot in two ensembles is something that hasn’t happened in the state in 20 years and something Wilson was really proud to accomplish.

“[It was] a really happy moment and my friends were kind of annoyed the entire time because I wouldn’t stop talking about it,” Dylan laughed while recalling the moment.

He chose to perform in the Jazz Ensemble.

Abigail, a junior, plays the B flat clarinet and made a huge jump from her sophomore audition. Last year, she won 19th Chair but this year she moved up to 2nd Chair Wind Symphony while also landing on the Symphonic Band for E flat.

“It’s a really special thing to be able to go to something like this and play with so many people,” said Abigail. “I was really excited. I was so happy.”

Abigail chose to perform with the Wind Symphony.

Doug, a senior, plays the trombone and secured 4th Chair in the All-State Orchestra. Of the 115 who auditioned for trombone, only 24 were chosen to participate.

“It was just nice because, you know, you work super hard for a long time to finally be rewarded,” Doug said. “It is pretty wicked.”

Jaidyn Stabler, a junior, placed for the first time. She won 19th Chair in the All-State Symphonic Band for clarinet. She and Abigail were two of the 36 chosen from the 175 who auditioned for clarinet.

“I was really excited when I made it. Me and my band director both cried because it was really exciting,” said Jaidyn.

The OKMEA All-State Music Festival is Jan. 17, 18, and 19. Click on the link below to review the schedule for the bands our students were selected.
