Sapulpa senior named National Merit Commended Scholar

Devin Fuller(SPS) - When you meet Devin Fuller you quickly learn this young man is living his best life.

The Sapulpa High School senior loves to travel, work on his photography, hone his drone-flying skills, fulfill his duties as editor of Key Club, volunteer with Student Council, help out at church with promotional videos, participate in peer tutoring during 7th hour, and play one of his five instruments.

“I like to do it all,” said Devin, in what could be called an understatement.

Along with being a musician, traveler, editor, etc., there’s one more thing Devin recently became.

“I received a letter telling me I was a National Merit Commended Scholar from College Board because of my PSAT scores,” he said.

The PSAT is taken in mid-October during the junior year of high school, but students don’t receive notice of their standing until 11 months later. Roughly 1.5 million students take the test with only 3 percent, or 50,000 students, earning the distinction of Commended Scholar.

“It was a big honor and I was really excited to receive it.”

Devin will receive a Letter of Commendation as well as being in line for scholarships through the National Merit Scholarship Program.

“In terms of scholarships it definitely helps out a lot and so I’m looking to see, looking forward to seeing what opportunities it’s gonna bring me.”

As for college and how he can apply those opportunities, Devin has plans for a double major in journalism and photography so he can pursue a career as a photojournalist.

“[My] dream would be to get a job with like TIME or National Geographic.”

But first, he has to make a decision on which school to attend. His top three include:

“New York University in Manhattan. The Manhattan base but I’d eventually like to transfer out maybe go to the Dubai location. The University of Maryland and then, the University of Tulsa. All three are excellent schools.”

If Dubai seems like a stretch, remember, Devin’s a traveler and he said he would like to study abroad.

“I’d love the challenge, love to see the different cultures. I just love to explore.”

Explorer. One more thing you can call him.

Congratulations, Devin.
